This project was done in collaboration with Feeney McMahon Architects. This was a competition entry, which was shortlisted to a shortlist of three from an original entry pool of over one hundred entries. The site was the Loreto Secondary School in Dalkey, County Dublin. It was a spectacular site, elevated above the rocky sea shore looking out to the Irish sea. The brief was to provide a sports hall for the school, incorporating a large basketball court, smaller work out rooms as well as changing rooms, back stage areas and reception spaces. The budget was very limited which drove an innovative approach to providing all the rooms of the brief while still maximising the potential of the site.

Essentially, the spaces were accommodated in as simple an enclosure as possible, with the section doing most of the work in design terms - the large space of the rooflit basketball court was flanked by a three storey block of the same height which accommodated the other elements of teh brief. Whatever budget was available was dedicated to a very large window overlooking the sea.
